An ECK family's journey

At Eltham College Kids we take pride in creating a home away from home for our children and the best compliment we can get is to see children start out in our Babies room and stay with us until they leave to go to school.

One such story is the Pogue family, who were one of the first families to come to our child care centre at Laurimar in Doreen when it opened in May 2006.

Andrea and Simon Pogue enrolled their oldest daughter, Caitlin in the Toddler room and their youngest daughter, Isobel started in the Babies room.

Testament to the Pogue family’s faith and loyalty to our centre, Isobel is still with us four year’s later and is now in the Preschool room and will leave us for school next year.

Andrea Pogue comments: “We have always found the staff to be very friendly and caring.  Both our daughters love the staff who look after them and even though our oldest daughter is at primary school, she still rushes into the centre each day when we collect her sister, to talk to the staff & tell them about her day.  They are always willing to listen and they genuinely know the families and are interested in the children, even when they have started school”.

Andrea finds it very reassuring for parents that many of the staff, including the director and coordinator of the centre have been at Laurimar since it opened.

She comments: “I remember Lauren who gave me a tour of the centre before it opened.  She is still working there and has been a carer for both my daughters at one time or other.  Jodie who used to look after my Isobel as a baby is now coordinator which makes it easy for me to approach her on any matter and Tina still gives my girls a cuddle when she sees them.  The list could go on and on.  Having staff there from the beginning shows to me that they are valued by their employer and that is reflected in the way they treat you and your children.  Having a continuity of staff is priceless for parents who use day care services and cannot be equalled.”

Jodie Kidd, ECK Co-ordinator at Laurimar responds: “We have lots of families who have been attending our centre for many years. One child will start with us and then their brothers or sisters will join too. It really is like a big family here as many of our staff, me included, as well as our children have been here from the start and have see our centre grow into what it is today.”
